Literary Junkies in January!

It's that time again already! Welcome to the January edition of the Literary Junkies link-up.

Wanna join? It's simple! Create a post answering the following questions, then follow the rules below and add your post to our link-up!

1. Which book could you read over and over? Why?

I actually don't reread books. I always figure why reread something when I could be consuming something brand new to me where I don't already know the ending. Once, I reread what I thought was my all-time favourite book, White Oleander by Janet Fitch, and didn't enjoy it the second time around! The second round totally ruined the book for me! Ever since then, I haven't even attempted to reread anything.

I might reread The Birth House by Ami McKay since it's been so long... but I'm scared I'll hate it during my second go!

2. If you could be any character from any book you've read, who would you be?

Tough question, Taylor! The characters I am drawn to are the ones I can relate to... like Bridget Jones. I, by no means, want to be Bridget Jones but empathize with her character.

Maybe I'll say that I'd like to be Hermione Granger with her pretty curly hair and her super magic powers! haha. I think having such pretty, curly hair is a magical power in its own, though.

3. Do you ever put a book down because you just can't get into it? Or do you stick it out to the bitter end? Any examples?

I have no qualms about putting a book down and never returning to it if I'm not enjoying it! Maybe I can be tough on authors but if you're boring the snot out of me, you don't get a second chance. Sorry!

I put these two books down without thinking twice. I was about 100 pages away from finishing the first installment of the Game of Thrones series and just couldn't do it anymore. I didn't care. I'd already seen the show and enjoyed that way better. And I'm so disappointed in JK Rowling. I was bored stiff with the Casual Vacancy!

4. Show us your book shelves! Do you have one designated spot in your house for all your books? Do you scatter them around?
I've got books scattered around a bit - some on my mantel, some old textbooks in the spare room. This is my dominant bookshelf, though. I'd like to have small stacks of books displayed throughout the house on shelves and end tables... however, that would require me buying shelves and end tables. For now it's just this big jumbled mess.

That's it for me! Now run along, everyone, and link up!

Hey Lesley!
I empathize with Bridget Jones too! Hahaha~ Actually I sometimes relate to her :D
Also, Casual Vacancy, I've completely stopped reading.. 1) I just couldn't bring myself to read it and 2) classes have started back up again and I'm trying to get a head start in everything. Hahaha~ I really want to try Game of Thrones... Why couldn't you finish it? The show was better? Hahaha, I admit, I'm really into the show and that's why I wanted to read the books.

Anyway, thanks for hosting!

I'm with you on re-reading fiction. I just have no desire to do it. I hear some people talking about how they read a particular book at least once a year. I think - What??? Why would they do that? Just different, I guess.

Okay so I listen to audiobooks more than I read - I have a long commute and it helps road rage to stay at bay - with that said - I actually bought Devil Wears Prada because I kept checking it out so many times from the library that I thought - I have to own this. I have probably listened to it like 10 times - I know I know - but it's so fun for the car!!

I love Hermione! Good pick! I had a really tough time with The Casual Vacancy as well. I read it through in hopes that it would get better because I wanted to like it so much but it was terrible. We have a lot of the same books on our shelf! I love your book case!

Yea, our Twitter party next week is going to be interesting to say the least...I cannot believe of the complete crap that is The Casual Vacancy. I will finish it, but I'm so disappointed in her book! I feel like she totally talked over her readers. Like there are so many words in this book that I have NEVER heard of...so the context of them doesn't make sense, so I just make something up! ha! ;)

I love JK but I read the reviews and a free sample of her new book and just decided I wasn't even going to attempt it. I understand authors trying something new but going to the extreme of where you were can be a bit wrong. I wish I could have a book closet but sadly I need my closet for clothes...boo!

When I was answering question #2 I thought of Hermione too but then my next thought was "oh, but I'm not that brave" LOL I haven't put down The Casual Vacancy yet, but I'm about to. :( I keep telling myself that the beginning of Harry Potter & the Sorcerers Stone wasn't that exciting at first and I keep hoping that it will get better. But, it doesn't look good. I'm only 12% through the book.

#1 - I completely agree! I never reread books, either.

#2 - If having curly hair is a magical power, I am a serious superhero! :-)

Your post made me laugh, because question 3 and 4 were so similar to mine. I had forgotten about White Oleander, that was a great book. I don't remember if I read it more than once though....

I have a really hard time re-reading books too, but used to do it quite a bit as a child. I'm re-reading War and Peace right now (because I'm a nut?) and struggling. Your response to Game of Thrones is exactly why I hide from TV shows and movies based on books. I read all of that series and then saw the TV show and HATED it. It's funny to see different reactions to that kind of media, though!

Hey!! I'm coming to you from the linki up!
I'm surprised that J.K. Rowlings' new book was lame. I wasn't planning to read it...but maybe I'll definitely skip it now. Ha!
I like your big jumbled mess. Those are my fav kind of book shelves!

I love Hermione as a character. I am not afraid to say that I have a total girl crush on her and her real-life counterpart, Emma Watson.
