Bookish holliganry

Looks like it's the 3rd Tuesday of the month again! Woo hoo! Literary Junkies day! I haven't been reading as much as I'd like lately.  I've been trying to fit more knitting time in lately since I've neglected that hobby significantly the past few months. I only started reading the Literary Junkies book club selection a matter of days ago but it's so easy to get immersed in that I'm just about finished, just in time for the Twitter party!
What is this Literary Junkies I'm talking about?
On the third Tuesday of every month, Taylor from Pink Heels Pink Truck and I host this link-up for the many bookworm bloggers out there like ourselves. Come hang out with us and discuss good reads and meet some lovely people at the same time! Just create a post based on the questions listed below for our monthly link-up, follow the rules and you're all set!
We also have an online book club! This has been really successful so far - we're up to over 40 members! Every month we pick a new book to read based on members' suggestions. In April, we'll be discussing The Paris Wife - I can't wait! Sounds like a good one. On the third Tuesday of every month, the group meetings via Twitter party to chat about the book.
Now, here are the link-up questions!
1. What are you currently reading? Tell us about it.
Everyone in the world seems to be reading this. So, because I found a free version online I thought I'd give it a go and see why it's been getting so many 5 out of 5 star ratings on Goodreads. Turns out it's pretty darned good. Or at least it was for the first half. Then some crazy twist makes the book turn almost enrageingly strange and a bit confusing. But I'm still reading because this book digs its claws into your little heart and doesn't let go!

And on the complete opposite scheme of things, I've also got The Diary of Anne Frank on the go (apparently that isn't it's actual title but I'm still going to call it that).
Look! I was there in 2007! This is the outside of the building where Anne & her family went into hiding.
And look what else Amsterdam has! Outdoor urinals where the whole world can step in your pee. And that's my friend so it's okay that I took a picture of him peeing.
Uhh.. anyway. I started reading this years ago, probably in high school, but gave up. This time around I'm still not into it. I know I should be saying how great this book is, how harrowing the tale is, etc etc but I just don't really like it. Anne didn't write a whole lot about the details of the war, at least not in the 3/4 that I've read so far. She's focused on the drama going on between the people hiding inside the "Secret Annexe"; I'm not saying this isn't completely reasonable since I can only imagine what it'd be like holed up in a small set of rooms with such irritating people, I just want to know more about what it's like to live through the war. Alas, I will read on and see what else Anne has to say!

2. Recommend a book that has changed your perspective on life.
I can't say I've ever really read anything this with so much impact before. However, The Happiness Project did leave a slight impression on me. As did The Secret (gasp! Did I just admit to that?). I liked these books and the outlooks on life they present. They suit me. I just haven't put them all into practice yet.
3. What book do you recommend the most to people?
Do I even have to say it? My poor readers are definitely tired of seeing these book covers pop up. I won't say anything more about these books. Except that you need to read them. Now.
4. What are the top 3 books on your "to-read" list?
I have so many other books that I'm looking forward to reading right now - The Paris Wife, one of Chelsea Handler's - but these have all been on my list for a while.

5. What do you "do" while reading? (i.e. listen to music, eat) Any weird reading habits?
I bite my nails. Aghhh it's so bad. I always bite my nails when I read!

And that's it for me this month! Don't forget to link up!

I actually really enjoyed Anne Frank's Diary. Then again I read it as a 13 year old so I was probably glad of the lack of actual war stuff. You do have to wonder how much they knew about what was actually going on.

I've also never read 'The Secret' but keep meaning to. Off to go find it on Amazon now! All my reading recently has been 'chick lit' so it's about time I mixed it up.

I loved the diary of a young girl. That building would be a great place to visit. My great-great-grandparents died in the Holocaust so I would like to see places like that. It would be very emotional, but I feel like I need to.

What a lovely post. I love reading and have instilled a love of reading on my children. It's one of my biggest joys. :)

The secret is a great one! So uplifting! I didn't read the Happiness Project, but am reading Happier at Home, along with a stack of baby / birthing books! I will finish it one of these days!

I'm finally linking up! I think I've been in the FB group since December haha, but I'm so glad to finally be posting. :) Also, I think we have very similar book tastes judging from the books you want to read, so I'm adding your two recommendations to my list!

Gone Girl was intense! I had no idea how it was going to turn out.

I'm interested in knowing more about the book club you do. Thanks!
